ECall is a European wide initiative to bring faster emergency assistance to road users when their vehicle is involved in a collision. The concept is that an eCall enabled vehicle transmits positional and collision severity information, using the mobile network, and then opens a voice call to enable the emergency services to communicate with the occupants of the crashed vehicle.

As part of the HeERO project, ERTICO requested the help of Embed to deliver an eCall demonstrator in record time. Embed used their model-based telematics system design tool, Telenique, to develop the functionality in approximately 2 weeks. This was then deployed onto Embed’s E600 telematics platform populated with the Cinterion AH3 modem. The testing was performed at the telematics test facility innovITS ADVANCE. The solution is available as an example project.

Since that meeting, Embed have fitted a remote control car with the eCall unit and it has been used at several exhibitions, demonstrating the technology.
